PARTNER MOVES - Ince & Co announces senior corporate partner hire in Dubai

16 Mar 2016

International law firm Ince & Co is pleased to announce the appointment of Tom Briggs as partner in its Dubai office. Tom advises on corporate, finance and commercial law matters, including M&A, primary and secondary fundraisings, private equity, venture capital, joint ventures and project finance. He is recognised as a leading corporate/M&A lawyer by Chambers, IFLR1000 and Legal 500.

Prior to joining Ince & Co on 13 March, Tom spent 15 years at Charles Russell Speechlys. For the last three years he was a partner and Head of Commercial/Corporate in the firm’s Bahrain office where he was primarily responsible for the development of the corporate, finance and commercial law practice in the Middle East. In 2008, he spent six months as Acting General Counsel to Gulf Air in Bahrain where he advised on general corporate and commercial law matters and led a number of aircraft acquisitions, financings and leases.

Tom’s recruitment forms part of Ince & Co’s agreed strategy to enhance its transactional capability in its core sectors of aviation, energy, insurance, international trade and shipping. Other recent transactional partner appointments include the promotions of Beatrice Russ (Finance, London), Christopher Quandt (Corporate, Hamburg), Devandran Karunakaran (Finance, Singapore) and Laurence Hanley (Aviation Finance, Paris). The firm also recently recruited Paul-Emmanuel Benachi (Corporate, Shanghai), Balbir Bindra (Finance, Hong Kong), Jennifer Donohue (transactional Insurance & Reinsurance, London), Will Cooper (Aviation Finance, London) and Duncan Bateson (Ship and Superyacht Finance, London). Corporate finance specialist Yeon Jin Seong also joined the firm’s Hong Kong office as Of Counsel in November 2015.

Tom’s arrival also means that Ince & Co has three former airline general counsels working at the firm. In addition to Tom, Anna Anatolitou was General Counsel to Air Arabia Group and Chris Walsh was Group General Counsel to the Emirates Group.

Rania Tadros, Managing Partner of Ince & Co’s Dubai office, commented:

“I am delighted to welcome Tom to our Dubai office. By continuing to grow our transactional capability in the GCC/Middle East and internationally we intend to further institutionalise our relationships with existing clients and target new ones. His appointment means that we now have three former general counsels to Middle East-based airlines. We believe that this makes us unique and adds a deep commercial understanding of the sector to our legal advice.”

Stephen Jarvis, Global Head of Corporate, commented:

“Tom’s wealth of experience in leading cross-border corporate finance transactions will add considerable strength to our offering to clients. Furthermore, his appointment demonstrates the continued progress that we are making in enhancing our transactional capability in our chosen sectors across our international network.”
