Global law firm Eversheds has advised the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham its joint venture with Stanhope Plc to deliver new housing in the borough.
In the first phase, the project aims to redevelop two sites in Fulham – Watermeadow Court estate and Edith Summerskill House – in order to create more than 300 new homes over the next three years. Working in partnership with Stanhope, the Council hopes to improve efficiencies by utilising housing assets to their full potential, while reducing its housing debt.
The housing joint venture will be key in delivering the Council’s objective to create a ladder of housing opportunity for local people and marks an innovative phase in delivery by working in genuine partnership alongside Stanhope Plc.
The Eversheds team was led by Partner Kuljeet Gill and supported by Partner Frances Woodhead, Legal Director Jane Southworth, and Principal Associates Matthew Storer, David Byrne and Michelle Naylor. The team advised the Council on all aspects of the transaction including the procurement process which led to the selection of Stanhope as the private development partner in this venture.
Kuljeet said:
“This is a significant project for the Council which will create housing opportunities in one of the most oversubscribed boroughs in London. By working in partnership with Stanhope, Hammersmith & Fulham Council will be able to access financing to deliver new housing at affordable prices for local people which is a key strand of the Council’s housing pledge to redress the balance in the borough.”
