22 Sep 2014

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP has advised Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (Teachers’) on its agreement to acquire a 50% stake in Bristol Airport from its co-shareholder, Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund.
Teachers’ will become the sole shareholder of Bristol Airport as a result of the transaction, which is due to complete by 1 October 2014. Bristol Airport is one of the fastest growing airports in the UK and acts as a key gateway for passengers travelling to the south-west of England.

The Freshfields team was led by corporate partners Martin Nelson-Jones and Laurie McFadden, together with finance partner Peter Hall.

Martin Nelson-Jones, co-head of the firm’s Infrastructure and Transport Group, commented: “We are delighted to have advised Teachers’ on another significant infrastructure acquisition, highlighting our expertise in the airports sector. We have also advised on a number of other recent transactions in the sector, including the sale of Stansted Airport”.
