The EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) approved Enova's state aid to Hydro Aluminium AS, by way of a grant of approx. NOK 1, 5 billion to Hydro Aluminium AS.

The aid is granted for the construction of a demonstration plant at Karmoy for the verification of Hydro's new smelting cell technology, developed to lead to an important reduction in both the electricity consumption and greenhouse gas emissions of aluminium smelters. Wikborg Rein has assisted Enova with the notification of the state aid to the ESA. This is not only Enova's biggest grant ever and a milestone project for Hydro aiming at reducing their electricity consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, but also the biggest individual state aid grant before ESA last year. Wikborg Rein's team has consisted of Senior Associate Kine Neslein  and Partner Jonn Ola Sorensen.
