International law firm Taylor Wessing has advised Enterprise Rent-A-Car, the world's largest vehicle rental business, on its acquisition of City Car Club, the UK's biggest independent car sharing company.
Enterprise is already one of the UK's largest car-sharing providers to the public sector under its Enterprise CarShare brand, but this acquisition will strengthen the company's position as a leading player in the UK's sharing economy.
Enterprise will utilise City Car Club, which unlike CarShare is aimed at the private and corporate vehicle renters, to support the fast-growing demand for car sharing and mobility services amongst businesses as well as for personal use.
The acquisition agreement covers all of City Car Club's assets, which include over 800 vehicles, 45 employees and a membership of more than 30,000. Its vehicles are accessible to members 24 hours a day, seven days a week and in 17 cities around the country. In the short term the two businesses will continue to operate separately, with a view to combining in the future.
The cross-firm Taylor Wessing team was led by Emma Danks, partner in the Private Equity practice, supported by Caitlin Dupuy and Rachel Greenhalgh. Emma said: "Enterprise Rent-A-Car is already a leader in its market. With the growth of vehicle sharing in the UK, this acquisition is indicative of the changing nature of the industry. This is an exciting time for the company as it looks to the next stage of its growth and we are delighted to have supported Enterprise on this important transaction."
Brian Swallow, vice-president at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, said: "Enterprise City Car Club share many of the same values and this acquisition will aid us in extending our service to corporate and private motorists who want flexible travelling options. We are grateful to Taylor Wessing for their invaluable support on this transaction."
The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
