Ashurst has advised the international entertainment broadcasting group Modern Times Group on the acquisition of DreamHack, one of the world's largest electronic sports (eSports) companies.
DreamHack is the leading eSports player in Scandinavia and runs both local and global esports leagues, tournaments and championships. MTG is acquiring the whole of DreamHack for an enterprise value of SEK 244 million (US$28.2 million), from private investors and the company's management, which will continue to drive the development of the business.
This investment follows MTG's recent acquisition of 74% of ESL, the world's largest eSports company, in relation to which Ashurst also acted.
The Ashurst team was led by Stockholm-based corporate partner Pontus Bergsten, assisted by senior associate Johan Levinsson and associates Simon Hahn and Rasmus Lüning. Counsel Jenny Jilmstad advised on the employment aspects of the transaction.
