DLA Piper has advised Germany's Aareal Bank on its financing of London-based investor Henderson Park's debut acquisition in the UK hotel market. The £330 million loan supports Henderson Park's £500 million acquisition of the London and Birmingham Hilton Metropole hotels which completed last week.
The Hilton London Metropole, located on the UK capital’s Edgware Road, is London’s largest hotel by delegate capacity and second largest by room count. In total, it has 1,059 bedrooms. The Hilton Birmingham Metropole, located at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre, is the UK’s largest hotel outside of London, with 790 rooms and the UK’s largest conference hotel by delegate capacity.
The DLA Piper team was led by Finance & Projects partner Toby Barker and included senior associate Tim Nolan (also Finance & Projects in London), partner Richard Crossfield and senior associate Helen Cairns (both Real Estate, London) and UK Head of Tax Richard Woolich and senior associate Carmelo Lam (both Tax, London).
Toby Barker said: "We are delighted to have advised Aareal's market leading hotel team on a headline financing and to have had the opportunity to provide a full service offering across our finance, real estate and tax practices."
