PARTNER MOVES - Morgan Lewis Adds Finance Partner and Of Counsel to London International Finance Team

26 Jan 2018

Morgan Lewis continues its expansion in London, announcing today that it will welcome finance lawyer Georgia M. Quenby as a partner. She will be joined at Morgan Lewis by finance of counsel Victoria Thompson. Ms. Quenby and Ms. Thompson represent financial institutions and investors in a wide range of matters with a focus on cross-border transactions. They will join the firm in the coming days.

Both lawyers come to Morgan Lewis from another global firm in London where Ms. Quenby headed its asset-based lending practice. Representing clients who are involved in the retail, real estate, manufacturing, and industrial and infrastructure sectors, Ms. Quenby and Ms. Thompson have acted for all classes of investors including banks, hedge funds, asset managers, and quasi-private equity funds, as well as borrowers. Ms. Quenby also advises clients on strategic joint ventures.

The arrival of this new team follows the recent growth in London of the firm’s capabilities in the areas of global investigation and disputes and employment.

Morgan Lewis is solidly committed to London, a global financial center, and we are pleased to welcome this elite cross-border team as we maintain our strategic expansion there, said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. Georgia’s and Victoria’s addition also will offer further support for clients accessing London as a critical gateway to developed and emerging markets across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.

Ms. Quenby has for a number of years led complex and high-value cross-border financing transactions, restructurings, and other special situations. She brings significant experience with the Asian market having previously lived and worked for five years in Southeast Asia.

Alongside leading UK legal practitioners, academics, policymakers, and representatives of financial institutions, Ms. Quenby sits on the steering committee and the executive committee of the UK’s Secured Transactions Law Reform Project. The project is examining reform of English law relating to secured transactions and considering the need and shape of future change to reflect modern global commerce and finance.

Both Ms. Quenby and Ms. Thompson are dual-qualified, admitted to practice in New York as well as England.

We are extremely pleased to welcome our new colleagues, who further enhance our capability to advise our asset-based lending clients, strengthening our services on both sides of the Atlantic, said Jonathan Bernstein, the head of Morgan Lewis’s finance practice. Georgia’s deep experience advising a range of investors in cross-border financing, in addition to her restructuring work and her work at the forefront of English law reform in this area through the Structured Transactions Law Reform Project, will greatly benefit our clients in a wide range of transactions.

We are fortunate to have Georgia and Victoria join our firm, where their capabilities in the asset-based lending area will complement our extremely successful team offering clients a broad range of financing and restructuring advice, said Frances Murphy, the managing partner of the firm’s London office. Their arrival further demonstrates our dedication to growing the global services offered by our London office.
