PARTNER MOVES - King & Spalding Recruits Leading Asia-Pacific M&A Partner Lee Taylor to Lead Corporate Practice in Asia

19 Jan 2018

King & Spalding has added highly regarded Singapore-based M&A lawyer Lee Taylor as a partner in its Corporate Practice Group. Lee will lead the Corporate Practice Group in Asia-Pacific. Taylor joins from Clifford Chance, where he headed  the firm’s M&A group in Singapore and the private equity practice in South East Asia. Taylor brings over 20 years of experience, including 15 years in South East Asia.

Taylor has extensive experience advising on domestic and international public and private M&A, covering sectors such as insurance, healthcare, financial services, energy and private equity. He has advised on many of the largest and most complex M&A and private equity transactions in South East Asia, and has close ties to many of the leading companies, private equity houses, hedge funds and sovereign wealth funds across the Asia Pacific region, including China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea and Vietnam.

Taylor has represented clients such as Barclays, National Australia Bank, ABN AMRO, 3i, Affinity Equity Partners, Intermediate Capital Group, Carlyle, Platinum Equity Partners, Standard Chartered Private Equity, EQT, the IFC, and Credit Suisse. He is ranked in Chambers Global, Legal 500 Asia Pacific and IFLR as a leading lawyer.

Lee complements our existing global transactional strengths, especially in areas such as financial institutions, healthcare and energy, and further enhances our expanding advisory platform for clients active in Asia, said Keith M. Townsend, the Corporate Practice Group Leader at King & Spalding. We also share a number of international clients in common, which presents exciting prospects for cross-office collaborations in markets such as New York, London, Tokyo and Dubai. We are pleased to have him join our team.

Lee is a valuable addition to our Singapore and Asia practice and his sector expertise, strong regional experience and impressive portfolio provide a new dynamic for our corporate offering, added Kelly Malone, Office Managing Partner in Singapore. Lee is a prime example of the quality lateral recruits that the firm is targeting as we continue to expand in Asia, both in transactions and disputes.

Taylor becomes the 11th partner in King & Spalding’s expanding Singapore office. Recently, the office added partner Meredith Redwine, who relocated from the firm’s Atlanta office. Redwine is a disputes expert who was most-recently named a Law360 Rising Star for Product Liability Litigation 2017. In addition, the firm recruited International Arbitration counsel Jun Bautista last month from Herbert Smith Freehills. His practice focuses on work related to the Philippines and he is ranked in Chambers & Partners and Legal 500.

King & Spalding’s Singapore office opened in 2010 and now has 30 lawyers.

King & Spalding’s growth outside of the US and in Asia in particular over the past few years has been impressive, and the opportunity to join the team at this stage in the firm’s development is extremely exciting, added Taylor. Asia is a market with tremendous opportunity and I very much look forward to helping the firm expand its corporate practice in the region.
