Ashurst advises Berkeley Homes as the London Borough of Newham resolves to grant planning permission for the redevelopment of Stephenson Street, West Ham

08 Mar 2018

Ashurst has advised long standing client Berkeley Group on its proposals for the redevelopment of Stephenson Street (the former Parcelforce depot at West Ham) which Newham Council recently resolved to grant planning permission.

The scheme will deliver over 3800 new homes (a significant number of which will be for private rent), commercial and retail space, a new 1000 pupil secondary school, two new parks and a significant amount of infrastructure required to unlock the publicly-owned brownfield site (including three bridges and a new entrance to West Ham tube station).

Ashurst has been providing strategic planning advice to Berkeley on the scheme since Berkeley was  selected as development partner by the GLA in 2015.  Negotiations are now underway in respect of  the section 106 agreement to secure a comprehensive package of planning gain, including affordable housing and viability review.

The Ashurst team was led by Trevor Goode and included Charlie Reid and Tom Rowberry.
