Norton Rose Fulbright advises BayWa r.e. Energy Ventures on its investment in a Swedish energy startup

17 Oct 2018

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has advised Munich based BayWa r.e. Energy Ventures GmbH, a Munich based company, on its investment in the Swedish energy startup Blixt Tech AB (Blixt). As lead investor of Blixt’s seed round, BayWa r.e. Energy Ventures provides the startup with access to the global infrastructure of the BayWa r.e. group.

Founded in 2018, the new venture capital unit of the BayWa r.e. focuses on digital solutions, storage and e-mobility in Europe and Israel. BayWa r.e. Energy Ventures is looking for innovative startups from across the energy sector to invest as lead or co-investor, during the crucial stages of early development. Blixt is the first investment of BayWa r.e. Energy Ventures and is the first and only company to offer solid state miniature circuit breakers to enable numerous smart metering and smart grid solutions. Based in Stockholm, Blixt has developed a digital circuit breaker. Its lack of mechanical parts makes it possible to cut a circuit within only 250 nanoseconds. The Blixt breaker can be retrofitted for regular fuse boxes and fill the needs of existing breakers, remote controls and smart meters in one single device.

The Norton Rose Fulbright team was led by London partner and head of Nordic Tomas Gärdfors and Munich of counsel Sebastian Frech. In addition, the team included associates Sebastian Eisenhut, Rickard Lilliestierna and Philip Tonkin.
