PARTNER MOVES - Clifford Chance adds antitrust and competition partner Elizabeth Richmond in Sydney

06 Jun 2023

Leading international law firm Clifford Chance announced that Elizabeth Richmond joins the firm's Global Antitrust team as a partner in Sydney. Elizabeth joins from Clayton Utz where she focused on merger control advice, competition litigation and antitrust regulation.

Elizabeth brings over 15 years of experience in antitrust and competition law. She advises clients on a range of competition-related issues, including merger control, competition litigation, cartel investigations, dawn raids and competition regulation. In the area of competition litigation, Elizabeth has advised on some of the very few antitrust cases to be litigated in Australia.

Commenting on the appointment, Australia Managing Partner Richard Gordon said, We are thrilled to welcome Elizabeth to the team. Her unique experience advising on some of Australia's most significant antitrust and competition issues will benefit our clients in Australia. In particular, she will be an incredible asset to our Corporate practice, which has rapidly expanded over the last few years and now numbers seven partners focussing on advising financial investor clients on an array of corporate transactions.

Marc Besen, Co-Head of the Global Antitrust Practice said, Australia is a key jurisdiction shaping antitrust and competition developments elsewhere in the world. Elizabeth will bring in-depth market expertise to our growing international practice, which has built an exceptional reputation providing seamless antitrust advice across a range of areas, including global merger control, antitrust investigations and litigation, as well as foreign investment.

Elizabeth said, I am delighted to join Clifford Chance in Australia and the Global Antitrust Practice, which is so well-regarded in the market. I look forward to being a part of a truly global team that provides joined-up advice to solve our clients' most complex antitrust and competition challenges all around the world.

Clifford Chance's Global Antitrust Practice covers all the key hubs of Europe, Asia Pacific and the US, with over 190 antitrust lawyers advising clients on their most complex and important antitrust matters across the world. The firm recently appointed antitrust litigation partners Joe Ostoyich and Will Lavery to its US Antitrust practice.

In Asia Pacific, the Antitrust practice includes teams in Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo. The team has a strong track record of advising on complex and market-leading transactions such as advising fuel supplier Viva Energy on its AU$1.15 billion acquisition of OTR Group, China Baowu Group, the world's largest steel producer, on the global antitrust and FDI filings of its acquisition of Sinosteel Group and Japanese financial services group ORIX Corporation on the antitrust and China merger control aspects of its acquisition of DHC Corporation.
