DLA Piper will strengthen its European practice with Dr Caroline Herkströter as new Head of Financial Services Regulatory Europe as of September 1, 2023. As a partner in DLA Piper's Finance, Projects and Restructuring practice group in Germany, Dr Caroline Herkströter will be based in Frankfurt. Dr Caroline Herkströter joins from Norton Rose Fulbright, where she was a partner in the investment and banking regulatory practice from 2007 to 2015 and again from 2019. From 2015 to 2019, she headed the legal department of a large bank. In Frankfurt, Dr Ute Brunner-Reumann, who is well versed in investment and banking regulatory law, will join Dr Caroline Herkströter's team as of counsel. Together, they will strengthen and develop the European practice for Financial Services Regulatory.
Dr Caroline Herkströter and Dr Ute Brunner-Reumann focus on securities and banking regulation and the regulation of investment assets. The team advises credit institutions and financial service providers, in particular investment and universal banks, AIF and UCITS management companies as well as securities trading firms on all issues of German, European and international investment, banking and capital markets law. Another focus is on the launch and distribution of open and closed-end investment funds, in particular securities and real estate funds within Germany.
Dr Caroline Herkströter brings vast ESG and FinTech experience for German organizations. In addition, she also advises on regulatory issues in the areas of blockchain and cryptocurrencies, crypto-custody, and advises a range of businesses from start-ups to financial institutions on regulatory issues related to the use of these technologies.
With her expertise in these fields, she will complement our German practice, while also further developing our European practice as Head of Financial Services Regulatory Europe.
Dr Ute Brunner-Reumann worked for many years at an international law firm before gaining in-house experience at two large banks including several years in management function. In 2020 she also joined Norton Rose Fulbright. Dr Ute Brunner-Reumann, will advise payment service provides, and comes with broad knowledge in matters relating to investment and banking regulatory law, with a particular focus on custody and securities settlement issues, including cryptoassets and digitalization.
