International law firm Simmons & Simmons has announced an expansion of its dispute resolution practice in Amsterdam with the hiring of partner George Driessen.
The arrival of George, alongside counsel Kim van Wesel and associate Daniël Verduin, will further strengthen the corporate and commercial litigation capabilities of the firm in the Netherlands, allowing the practice to meet growing demand from clients.
George joins Simmons from a leading Dutch law firm, where he worked for over a decade and headed the firm's Dispute Resolution practice. Commanding a practice area covering the full range of arbitration and litigation in corporate and commercial disputes, his specialism focuses on handling post-M&A claims and corporate governance disputes.
George brings a strong team to the firm, comprised of Kim van Wesel, who brings over ten years of experience as a seasoned corporate and commercial litigator, and Daniël Verduin, who joined the team in 2021 and holds experience in commercial and corporate litigation and arbitration. The team’s arrival represents a strategic addition to the commercial litigation and contracts practices of Machteld Hiemstra, Paul Tjiam and Andrada Tiru.
Luc Cohen, national practice group head of dispute resolution, said: We are delighted to welcome George and his team to the firm. Current market trends in dispute resolution and litigation demonstrate a growing demand for top-tier legal services focusing on dispute management and resolution.
“Simmons continues to strengthen the depth and breadth of its dispute resolution practice, and the arrival of this new team is testament to that ambition. Their expertise aligns seamlessly with our clients’ needs and enhances our capabilities in handling complex and high profile disputes.”
On joining Simmons, George Driessen commented: Kim, Daniël and I are incredibly excited to join the dynamic and well-respected dispute resolution team of Simmons & Simmons – a practice which is a natural fit for our team. We look forward to contributing to the growth of the Simmons Amsterdam office and its dispute resolution practice alongside the excellent team already there.
