PARTNER MOVES - Pinsent Masons appoints leading patent litigation partner in its London office

06 Sep 2023

Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has hired patent litigation partner James Marshall to join its London office.

Joining from Taylor Wessing, James’ practice focuses on the life sciences and technology sectors. In the course of his career, he has advised on a number of high-profile cases such as LillyIcos v. Pfizer, Generics v. Lundbeck, Apple v. Ericsson and Huawei v. Unwired Planet - for Ericsson as an intervenor in the Supreme Court. James is a versatile IP practitioner, whose expertise extends beyond patent litigation to trade secrets and licensing.

Head of Intellectual Property and Life Sciences at Pinsent Masons, Clare Tunstall, said: “Having worked with and opposite James over the years, we have always been impressed by his ability to use patent litigation as a business enabler for clients.

“As an internationally recognised market leader, James will bring invaluable experience to the team, not only in life sciences but also in relation to Standard Essential Patents and FRAND. We have long held the view that he would make an excellent addition to our team and are delighted to welcome him to the firm.”

James’ appointment follows recent lateral partner hires in the technology, science and industry sector with Jaya Handa, Eleanor Ludlam and Kristina Cornish in London, Martin Hayward in Dubai and Joni Henry in Sydney.

Commenting on his appointment, James said: “It’s a very exciting time to be joining Pinsent Masons’ highly regarded international IP team and patent litigation practice. I much look forward to supporting clients and being part of such an innovative and unique purpose-led firm.”
