PARTNER MOVES - Boosting our EHS and ESG capabilities with the hire of environmental specialist Claire Gregory

09 Jan 2024

Eversheds Sutherland is pleased to announce the hire of Claire Gregory as a partner in the firm’s Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team from Mills & Reeve where she was a Partner and Head of the Environment practice.

Specialising in advising clients on their environmental, safety and energy matters, Claire covers both contentious and non-contentious issues and has over 20 years’ experience in the sector.

Bringing to the firm her unrivalled knowledge and academic credentials in environmental law, Claire’s practice covers environmental and energy matters across a broad range of corporate and real estate transactions. Her expertise includes providing bespoke advice on contaminated land and brownfield site development, environmental permitting, climate change and sustainability, waste regulation, water pollution, producer responsibility and statutory nuisance. She also provides legal advice and representation to companies and directors facing investigation or prosecution by the Environment Agency and other environmental regulators.

Mark Davenport, Global Co-Head of Litigation & Dispute Management, Eversheds Sutherland, commented: “Expert advice on environmental issues is always in-demand from our clients and is a significant part of the firm’s ESG practice, particularly from clients who require support with regulators and when completing transactions. Claire’s arrival will significantly augment our excellence in the environmental aspects of ESG and add to our position as a world class EHS legal practice. Claire is recognised as a leader in environmental law and we are delighted that she has chosen to join us.”

Claire Gregory, Partner, Eversheds Sutherland commented: “The opportunity and appetite to grow my practice at a global law firm was a clear next step in my career. I’ve known Paul Verrico for some years and long admired him and the dynamic team at Eversheds Sutherland and I am very keen to build on this. The firm has a strong global platform to expand my practice, with demand from clients for all aspects of environmental law, heavyweight litigation and audit consultancy, in both the US and more widely.”

Paul Verrico, Partner and Head of EHS Team, Eversheds Sutherland commented: “We are thrilled to welcome Claire to the firm and to our outstanding EHS team which I am privileged to lead. We are an ambitious group, putting our clients at the heart of every instruction,  across a range of practices and sectors, particularly in the firm’s company commercial and real estate teams and with those major energy and utilities companies whom the firm is advising on in their energy transition programmes. Claire’s rare skillset adds to  an already excellent environmental team, and we look forward to introducing her to our clients, building our bench strength together. We continue to evolve the practice and are always keen to talk to ambitious and intelligent EHS lawyers who might want to join our growing business.
