Akin is pleased to announce that Scott Colton has joined the firm’s special situations & private credit practice as a partner in New York. He joins from Paul Hastings, closely following the firm’s recent addition of preeminent private credit partner Bill Brady, with whom Scott has worked for many years.
Colton’s practice focuses on advising direct lenders and private credit firms on complex finance transactions and credit arrangements, including financings that include multiple tranches of debt. He regularly structures and negotiates a wide range of financing facilities, such as first-lien loans, second-lien loans, unitranche facilities, first-out/last-out facilities, senior stretch loans, junior capital and mezzanine facilities and various restructuring financings.
“I’m delighted to welcome Scott to our top-tier special situations & private credit practice,” said Akin chairperson Kim Koopersmith. “Our dynamic special situations & private credit team has been firing on all cylinders advising the most sophisticated credit and alternative capital managers deploying capital on their most significant and complex transactions.”
“The additions of Bill and Scott further strengthen our global ‘one-stop shop’ for credit and alternative capital providers, with market-leading practices in special situations & private credit, financial restructuring, fund formation, tax, funds litigation, shareholder activism and regulatory compliance,” said Ranesh Ramanathan, co-leader of Akin’s special situations and private credit practice.
“Bill and Scott have further expanded our team’s capabilities on the performing side of the private credit spectrum and their joining is an inflection point in our practice’s continued growth.” said Dan Fisher, co-leader of Akin’s special situations and private credit practice.
“Akin’s esteemed private credit practice and its unmatched reputation for excellence make it the perfect environment to take my practice to the next level,” said Colton. “I’m excited to join this growing team.”
