Dentons New Zealand has continued to strengthen its national financial markets team with Tom McLaughlin rejoining the firm as a Partner in Auckland.
Tom brings significant expertise to Dentons’ already market leading team, with over 12 years of New Zealand and international experience.
Most recently, Tom worked in the Cayman Islands as a vital part of Ogier’s multi-disciplinary private equity team. Tom previously worked at a leading New York law firm, Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP. He holds a Master of Laws from Stanford University.

Tom advises on all facets of investment funds and other financial products and services, including Fintech solutions. He has extensive experience in financial product and service launches, corporate and fund restructurings, regulatory compliance, and capital raising transactions. He also advises on regulated takeovers, NZX Listing Rules compliance, and corporate transactions involving financial services businesses.
Tom’s pragmatic and commercially-focused advice helps clients navigate complex legal and commercial challenges. He advises a diverse set of clients, including managers of both retail and wholesale/private investment funds, insurers, capital markets participants, and financial advice service providers.

In 2021, he was a finalist in the Young Private Practice Lawyer of the Year category at the New Zealand Law Awards and was included on NZ Lawyer’s Rising Stars list.
