International law firm Simmons & Simmons has hired Sara Barin as a partner in its energy, natural resources and infrastructure (ENRI) practice in London.
Joining Simmons from a major international law firm, Sara is a highly-regarded, versatile lawyer with over 15 years’ experience across a diverse range of sectors, including infrastructure, mining and energy, and a strong expertise in project finance and project development (including PPPs), joint ventures, as well as experience in M&A. She has also been recognised in industry rankings for her role in international projects.
Sara brings to the firm’s UK ENRI practice experience advising multi-national clients on complex, multi-billion pound projects, including lenders (with a focus on development finance institutions), sponsors, borrowers, vendors, bidders and joint venture partners.
In recent years, Sara has also been increasingly focused on high profile transactions in the mining, metals and critical raw materials sector which support the global energy transition, including electric vehicle supply chains, renewables and battery production.
Sara is a triple qualified lawyer – in England and Wales, Turkiye and New York – and brings extensive international experience to the firm, particularly through her work on mandates in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Her hire will support Simmons’ continued expansion in these regions.
Simmons has consistently been highly active on major energy, mining and infrastructure sector transactions. For example, in 2024 the firm represented Masdar on their €3.2bn deal to acquire Terna Energy; the developers on an IFI-backed €1.3bn CCGT Plant in Uzbekistan, and Greatland Gold on its $475m acquisition from Newmont of the Havieron and Telfer gold-copper projects and its AIM relisting.
Commenting on the hire, Iain Duncan, Cross Border Head of Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure at Simmons, said: “Sara is an outstanding addition to our expanding ENRI practice, with a strong track record of delivering for some of the largest and most prestigious players in the sector. Her project finance, development and joint venture capability – particularly around energy transition and mining and metals – is of the highest order, and will allow us to continue to meet the growing demand from UK and international clients.”
On joining Simmons, Sara commented: “I’m excited to be joining Simmons’ highly-regarded ENRI practice and be a part of this dynamic team and already deep senior bench. It’s an excellent time to join, with the group having seen rapid growth in recent years, particularly in relation to mandates which support the global energy transition. I’m looking forward to bringing my experience leading complex, cross-border ENRI transactions to work together with the team in securing further opportunities and providing excellent client service.”
