PARTNER MOVES - Brown Rudnick further strengthens life sciences offering with corporate partner hire in London

04 Feb 2025

Brown Rudnick announce the appointment of Matthew Edwards as a Transactions partner based in London in the firm’s Global Life Sciences Practice Group.

The move further enhances Brown Rudnick’s reputation as a go-to firm for life sciences and follows the recent arrival of Vince Shier and Ryan Smith in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.

Joining from Osborne Clarke, Edwards brings over 20 years of experience in advising clients in the life sciences sector, with a particular focus on venture capital investments, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, IPOs and other securities issues. Edwards, an Australian and English-qualified lawyer, has advised companies at all stages of development, from early-stage pre-revenue biotechnology companies through to listed PLCs, as well as investment funds and investment banks operating within the sector.

Prior to joining Osborne Clarke, Edwards was General Counsel for one of the world’s largest life sciences, nutrition, and wellness focused venture capital investors.

Mark Dorff, managing director of Brown Rudnick’s Corporate & Capital Markets Department said: “Matthew is a terrific lawyer. His appointment deepens our bench strength and sector expertise in London in life sciences, which is one of the firm’s five key pillars. Matthew’s appointment aligns well with our growth plans for the wider global practice, as demonstrated by our recent hires in the US. In the last 18 months we have nearly doubled the size of our global life sciences team.”

Adam M. Schoen, co-practice group leader of Brown Rudnick's Global Intellectual Property Practice Group and Global Life Sciences Group, said: “Building on the momentum of the recent appointments of Vince and Ryan in Washington, we are pleased to welcome Matthew to support our UK and European clients, and to support the expansion of his clients and client connections into the United States and elsewhere.”

Matthew Edwards added: “I am excited to be joining the firm and to be part of its continued investment in the life sciences space. Brown Rudnick, with their Pitchbook ranked EC/VC practice and attention to the needs of life sciences companies and their investors over their full life cycles, provides an excellent platform for my clients. I’m looking forward to contributing to Brown Rudnick’s continued growth trajectory.

Matthew Edwards’ hire demonstrates Brown Rudnick’s ongoing growth and investment in London within the firm’s pillar focus. In the past year, in London, the firm hired Angus Ford (Real Estate and technology), Robin Pickworth and Derval Walsh (Global Litigation), Paul Feldberg (Investigations and White Collar), and Charlotte Harris (Brand & Reputation Management).
