PARTNER MOVES - Orrick grows E&I finance platform in New York

09 Jul 2025

Rob Warfield joins Orrick from The Carlyle Group as a partner on the Energy & Infrastructure team in New York.

Rob brings deep experience advising private equity and credit funds, portfolio companies, sponsors and lenders in a wide variety of financing transactions in the energy and infrastructure sector and will help the firm meet its institutional clients’ growing needs for structured financing solutions in their infrastructure investments, both domestically and globally.

Prior to serving at Carlyle as vice president and counsel on the global legal investments team, he was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis.

He follows the addition earlier this year of New York restructuring partner Manny Grillo, who focuses on the energy sector. Rob is the 11th addition to the firm’s global E&I platform this year, including hires in New York, Houston, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Singapore, Paris, Milan and Seattle.

“Rob is a top talent with experience as both an in-house and outside advisor to the most sophisticated players. We are particularly excited to welcome him to our growing team as our PE clients are launching new energy- and infrastructure-focused funds, and there’s demand from institutional investors generally for creative financing structures,” said Kyle Drefke, co-leader of Orrick’s global Energy & Infrastructure practice.

“It’s a transformational moment in the market and investors, including PE funds and other institutional players, are seeking bespoke solutions for complex financing transactions in the energy and infrastructure sector,” said Rob. “I also look forward to reuniting with Adam Griffin, with whom I practiced at a prior firm, and collaborating with the rest of the team to provide our clients with all the resources necessary to leverage these opportunities.”

Since 2023, Orrick has helped clients close $23.6 billion in energy and infrastructure project financings globally. The firm’s Energy & Infrastructure team acts for 60 of the top 100 E&I investors, half of the top 50 renewables sponsors worldwide and four of the top 10 oil & gas majors. Orrick ranks No. 2 for Energy Transition globally (Inspiratia, 2024) and top 5 for global M&A deal volume for 1H 2025 (LSEG), and is an eight-time Project Finance Group of the Year (Law360).
