Ashurst has advised Chalegrove Properties on its proposals for the redevelopment of the City Pride Public House and Island Point sites on the Isle of Dogs. The London Borough of Tower Hamlets issued planning permissions on 10 October 2013 for both sites, following completion of two section 106 agreements.
The City Pride development comprises a residential led mixed use 75 storey tower including 822 residential units (including 70 shared ownership units), 162 serviced apartments, an amenity pavilion with shops, a roof terrace and public open space. At 239 metres tall, the tower will be the UK's tallest residential development.
The Island Point development comprises a number of three to five storey buildings with a rooftop pavilion rising to six storeys, providing 173 units of affordable housing.
The Ashurst team was led by head of planning Trevor Goode, assisted by senior associate Emma Herriman and solicitor Tom Rowberry. The team advised on the formulation and submission of the planning applications and the associated environmental statement, advised on the planning and implementation strategy and negotiated the section 106 agreements which were required for the grant of the planning permissions.
Trevor Goode commented:
"We welcome the Council's decision to grant planning permission for what will be the UK's tallest residential tower. We have a strong working relationship with the Council and are currently working on other projects in the borough including Columbus Tower and Goodman's Fields.
