International law firm Simmons & Simmons has announced that it is to welcome a new partner to its Munich office on 16th October.
Dr Fabian von Samson-Himmelstjerna will join the firm’s corporate practice in Munich*, where he will specialise in private equity matters; particularly those in the technology M&A space.
Fabian joins the firm from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP where he has been a partner since 2016. Prior to this, he spent over 9 years with Ashurst LLP, spending part of his tenure on secondment to Deutsche Bank.
Fabian’s practice is founded on an impressive track record of cross-border private equity and M&A experience, placing strong focus on technology and innovation transactions, particularly those in the FinTech, HealthTech, BioTech and energy spheres. His body of work includes advising Gimv in various transactions, including the acquisitions of majority stakes in companies such as Köberl Group and Medi Markt, and advising Macquarie Capital in its investment in off-shore wind farm EnBW Baltic 2. Additionally, he has a strong background in advising FinTechs, most recently Giroxx in several financing rounds.
Fabian has also acted on numerous bank M&A transactions, including the representation of Commerzbank and many other financial institutions. He has been recognized by leading German business weekly WirtschaftsWoche as one of the top M&A lawyers in Germany in 2020.
He will join Oliver Beyer and Christopher Götz in the Munich corporate team and will also work closely alongside the firm’s other private equity specialists in Germany, namely Christian Bornhorst. Fabian’s arrival signals the latest in a series of European hires for Simmons, with new partners joining our offices in Madrid, Dublin and Amsterdam in the last month.
On recruiting Fabian to the firm, Head of Corporate in Germany, Stephan Ulrich commented: “Welcoming Fabian to Simmons & Simmons is a demonstration of our commitment to growing the firm’s corporate offering in Germany. With his background in technology M&A, as well as private equity transactions more broadly, Fabian will further strengthen our offering in the TMT sector, and diversify our service offer to clients.”
On his arrival at Simmons, Fabian commented: “I am delighted to be joining the firm’s corporate team in Munich. My experience in private equity- specifically on cross border transactions- will provide additional expertise to the existing team. I am thrilled to join a firm with such a focused strategic vision and I am looking forward to utilising my specialisation in technology transactions to further broaden Simmons’ corporate offering and enhance the already strong reputation of the firm’s corporate work in Europe.”
