Freshfields advises Oberbank on the first financing framework agreement with Iranian banks

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP (‘Freshfields’) has advised Austria-based Oberbank AG on a financing framework agreement with banks in the Islamic Republic of Iran. It is the first agreement of its kind between a European credit institution and Iranian banks since the easing of sanctions at the beginning of 2016.

Herbert Smith Freehills’ full service project finance team has advised Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ), The Bank of Tokyo–Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. (MUFG), and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) on the project financing of the Lilyvale Solar Farm, located 50km north east of Emerald in the Central Highlands region of Queensland.

Leading international law firm Clifford Chance advised the underwriters on Postal Savings Bank of China Co., Ltd. (PSBC)'s US$7.25 billion offering of Basel III-compliant additional tier 1 preference shares. The underwriters were led by CICC, Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, UBS, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, ICBC (Asia), Haitong International, HSBC and DBS as joint global coordinators. This is the largest ever additional tier 1 capital issue out of Asia and also the largest of its kind globally since 2010.

Simpson Thacher represented Viridian Group FinanceCo PLC and Viridian Power and Energy Holdings DAC (together, the “Issuers”), wholly owned subsidiaries of Viridian Group Investments Limited (“Viridian”), an I Squared portfolio company and a leading vertically integrated utility active in the Irish energy markets, in connection with a Rule 144A and Regulation S offering of £225 million aggregate principal amount of 4.75% Senior Secured Notes due 2024 and €350 million aggregate principal amount of 4% Senior Secured Notes due 2025.

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has advised the Asia Securities Industry & Financial Markets Association (ASIFMA) on its response to Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Commission Public Consultation on “Approaches to Managing Personal Data in the Digital Economy”.

The Consultation Paper was issued on 27 July 2017 and proposed key amendments to the Personal Data Protection Act which include an enhanced framework for collection, use and disclosure of personal data, and mandatory data breach notification.
