Freshfields advises Canadian pension funds on acquisition of interests in a $2bn renewable energy and water infrastructure portfolio

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has advised Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan and the Public Sector Pension Investment Board, two of Canada's largest pension funds, on their agreement with Banco Santander, S.A. to acquire jointly an international portfolio of renewable energy and water infrastructure assets.

The assets, currently owned solely by Santander, will be transferred to a new company owned equally by all three parties.

Legal & General turns to Macfarlanes for Bishopsgate Long Term Property Fund Unit Trust purchase

Macfarlanes has acted for Legal & General Property ("LGP") on the acquisition of the Bishopsgate Long Term Property Fund Unit Trust and its portfolio of 24 commercial properties located across the UK, which it purchased for around £370m.

The portfolio will be held through a Jersey limited partnership, with Dutch pension fund manager PGGM and Legal & General Capital acting as limited partners, and LGP acting as the fund manager.

DLA Piper advises Knightsbridge Student Housing on £28 million acquisition

DLA Piper has acted for Knightsbridge Student Housing on its £28 million acquisition of a student housing scheme in Southampton from BY Developments Limited, who controlled the Site under a contract with the Site Owner, Southampton City Council.

Situated on St Mary’s Road, the scheme will include 467 student flats as well as 3,100 square feet of retail space and is set for completion in September 2016.

Poland / Austria: Schoenherr advises Vienna Insurance Group on its first direct real estate acquisitions in Poland

Schoenherr advised VIG Fund, a company of Vienna Insurance Group on its recent purchases of two top-tier commercial properties in Warsaw. The transactions, which involve a total of over 21,000 sq.m. of office and were completed in October and November 2014, respectively, represent VIG’s first direct acquisitions of real estate in the Polish market.

Hogan Lovells Advises M&G on Gala Bingo Acquisitions

Hogan Lovells has advised M&G's Secured Property Income Fund (SPIF) on the £173.4 million acquisition of a portfolio of Bingo Halls from a Gala Bingo Limited subsidiary. The transaction closed on 19 December 2014.

The M&G Secured Property Income Fund specialises in long lease property investment. The Gala Bingo portfolio comprises a mix of in town and out of town venues across the country, let on new 25-year leases to Gala Leisure Limited.  It includes a number of their Heritage sites, such as the Grade II listed former Granada Cinema in Tooting.

DLA Piper represents InterContinental Hotels Group in acquisition of Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants

DLA Piper is representing InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) in the acquisition of Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, the world’s largest independent boutique hotel operator, for US$430 million in cash.

The acquisition makes IHG the clear market leader in the boutique segment, the fastest-growing in the hotel industry. The Kimpton deal will bring its portfolio of boutique-style properties to 200 across 19 countries. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2015.

Roschier represented InfraVia in the acquisition of Kilpilahti electricity distribution network from Neste Oil

Roschier represented InfraVia European Fund II (an infrastructure fund managed by InfraVia) in the acquisition of a 100% stake in Kilpilahden Sähkönsiirto Oy, the regulated electricity distribution network of the Kilpilahti industrial area, from Neste Oil Corporation. With 2 000 GWh of energy per annum distributed Kilpilahden Sähkönsiirto Oy is one of the largest industrial distribution networks in the Nordics.
