Renewables experts advise financiers on landmark project combining wind and solar

Herbert Smith Freehills has acted for the financiers, National Australia Bank Limited (NAB) and Industrial Commercial Bank of China Limited, Sydney Branch (ICBC), on the project financing of the A$26.6 million Gullen Solar Farm project near Canberra.

The 10 MW solar photovoltaic plant will become Australia’s first large-scale solar farm to be co-located with wind turbines using the same grid connection infrastructure and will be built adjacent to the existing Gullen Range Wind Farm, 28 kilometres north west of Goulburn in New South Wales.

Success for Ashurst at IJGlobal Europe and Africa Awards

Ashurst has been acknowledged for advising on two prize-winning deals at the IJGlobal Europe & Africa Awards, held on 29 March in London.

Ashurst was recognised for its work on the N25 toll road, which was named European Project Bond Deal of the Year. A team led by partner Patrick Boyle advised the sponsors BAM PPP PGGM Infrastructure Coöperatie U.A. and Iridium Concesiones de Infraestructuras on the approximately €146 million project bond financing with EIB credit enhancement for the N25 New Ross bypass greenfield PPP in Ireland.

Norton Rose Fulbright advises ARENA on large-scale solar PV competitive funding round

Norton Rose Fulbright has advised the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) on the latest project to reach financial close under ARENA’s large-scale solar (LSS) photovoltaics (PV) competitive funding round.

The firm advised ARENA on the funding agreement and all other aspects of the funding for the 48.5 MW Manildra Solar Farm located in regional NSW. The project, which received $9,810,000 of ARENA funding, was developed by Infigen and acquired by First Solar at financial close.

Clifford Chance provided comprehensive advice to bayernets GmbH, a transmission system operator, on the planning and financing of the so-called MONACO pipeline.

The transmission pipeline for natural gas runs from the German-Austrian border in Burghausen to Finsing near Munich. Commissioning of the pipeline is scheduled for 2018. The MONACO pipeline will enable natural gas transmission from and to the major natural gas reservoirs in Austria which are connected to the bayernets network.

Norton Rose Fulbright advises on unique financing of Jamaica LNG-to-power project

Norton Rose Fulbright has advised the National Commercial Bank of Jamaica, JCSD Trustee Services Limited and other financing parties on the $330m project financing of a 190MW LNG-to-power independent power project at Old Harbour, Jamaica.

Once operational, the project will be the largest power plant in Jamaica, providing approximately 20% of the country’s electricity. It will be the second plant to operate on gas imported via LNG and only the first to be developed and financed on a green-field basis.

Herbert Smith Freehills has advised First Solar on the project financing of its 48.5 MWAC solar PV farm to be located near Manildra in New South Wales.

First Solar successfully achieved completion of the acquisition of the Manildra Solar Farm project entity from Infigen and financial close of the project, which included A$9.8 million of grant funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). The project is the latest to reach financial close as part of ARENA’s large-scale solar competitive funding round.
