Wierzbowski Eversheds Sutherland advises Warsaw University of Technology on agreement with Lotos Lab sp. z o.o. for R&D projects on low-emission transportation

The firm's managing partner, Tomasz Zalewski, and Katarzyna Klimczak, attorney at law on the IP &TMT team, have advised the Warsaw University of Technology in negotiation of an agreement with Lotos Lab sp. z o.o. for cooperation on R&D projects involving low-emission transportation and energy storage. The aim of the joint initiative is to develop prototypes for technological solutions for use in industry.

Chilean Lithium Salars signs definitive option agreement to divest lithium brine projects in Chile

Chilean Lithium Salars SpA (“CLS”) signed a Definitive Option Agreement to sell 50% of its issued shares to MGX Minerals Inc. (CSE: XMG) (OTCQB: MGXMF) (FSE: 1MG).

CLS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Chilean Lithium Salars Pty Ltd. and holds a 100% interest in three prospective lithium exploration projects located in Chile, including Francisco Basin, Laguna Brava and Laguna Escondida Lithium Projects.

Gowling WLG was counsel to CLS on Canadian aspects of this agreement with a team that included France Tenaille (mining) and Ian Mitchell (securities).

GSK Stockmann advised Building Society HOWOGE on Residential Tower Project “Q218”

GSK Stockmann advised HOWOGE on awarding a partnering contract as part of an innovation partnership for a residential high-rise.

As the first of Berlin’s very own building societies, HOWOGE signed a large building contract (project development, planning and construction) within an innovation partnership – a new procedure that, so far, has rarely been used.

Herbert Smith Freehills has advised large-format retail expert Aventus Retail Property Fund on its A$148 million proposal to internalise its management functions through the acquisition of its external manager, the Aventus Property Group. The proposal was approved by a 72% majority of unitholders on 25 September 2018 and completed on 1 October 2018.

Travers Smith advises on CVA for Powerleague Fives

Travers Smith LLP has advised Powerleague Fives Limited, a leading provider of 5-a-side football facilities, on its company voluntary arrangement (CVA). The CVA was approved by Powerleague's creditors on 16 May 2018.

Powerleague currently operates over 440 pitches across 49 sites in the UK, and Ireland and the Netherlands and employs over 580 people. Powerleague's profitability had been adversely impacted by a combination of pressures, including increasing competition and rising costs, which jeopardised its future viability.

DLA Piper advises Acciona on ground breaking project

DLA Piper has advised global infrastructure company, Acciona, on its successful appointment as Engineering, Procurement and Construction Contractor to the Kwinana Waste to Energy project (Kwinana WtE).

This is a first of its kind project and will see waste ‘recycled’ into energy at a 36MW Facility located in Kwinana, West Australia.  Once complete, Kwinana WtE will receive waste from seven Local Government Authorities and will then supply baseload renewable energy to local governments.

Ashurst advises on new era for Wales and Borders rail services

Transport for Wales has successfully taken over the operation of Wales and Borders from Arriva Trains Wales. Branded as Transport for Wales Rail Services, the 15 year contract will be delivered by KeolisAmey.

International law firm Ashurst advised KeolisAmey, a joint venture partnership between international public transport operator Keolis and infrastructure asset management specialist Amey, on the contract.

Kirkland & Ellis International LLP represented Carlyle International Energy Partners on its definitive agreement to acquire 100% of EnerMech Group, a leading global provider of full life cycle asset integrity management solutions for energy, industrial and infrastructure applications, from Lime Rock. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, and the transaction is subject to relevant regulatory approvals.
