Gide, counsel to the IFC on its investment in the share capital of Sigfox

Gide advised the IFC (International Finance Corporation, World Bank group) on its investment in the share capital of Sigfox, a global communications services provider for the Internet of Things (IoT) for an aggregate amount of EUR 15 million (of which EUR 5 million has been contributed to date).

The Gide team comprised partner Jean-Gabriel Flandrois, and associate Hugo Nocerino.

Skadden Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP advised Sigfox.

Shearman & Sterling Advises EFG Hermes on Its Investment in Frontier Investment Management

Shearman & Sterling advised EFG Hermes UAE Limited (EFG Hermes), a wholly owned subsidiary of EFG Hermes Holding S.A.E, on its agreements to acquire a 50 percent stake in Frontier Investment Management (FIM).  Established in 2008, FIM has grown over the past few years to become one of the Middle East’s leading asset managers, with $1.6 billion of Assets under Management (AUM). The remaining 50 percent of FIM will continue to be held by FIM’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer.

Herbert Smith Freehills advises Beijing Gas on completion of energy investment with Rosneft and US$500 million bond issue

Leading global law firm Herbert Smith Freehills has advised Beijing Gas Group on the successful completion of its first major investment in the Russian energy market through agreements with Russian state-owned company Rosneft. The transaction has been completed alongside other work for the company - in May this year, a team led by Beijing partner Zhong Wang and Hong Kong partner William Ku assisted Beijing Gas Group on a successful US$500 million five-year bond issue, the proceeds of which have been used to fund the acquisition.

Visa to invest in Klarna

Baker McKenzie is acting for Visa, the California-based financial services company, in connection with their investment agreement with Klarna, one of Europe’s fastest growing online payments companies.

Visa’s planned investment is part of a global strategy to open up the Visa ecosystem and support a broad range of new partners who are helping to redefine and enhance the purchase experience for millions of consumers globally.

Slaughter and May advised Bertelsmann on its USD 1 billion acquisition of a further 22 percent stake in Penguin Random House

Slaughter and May advised Bertelsmann SE & Co. KGaA on the UK corporate and tax and EU competition law aspects of its acquisition of a further 22 per cent. stake in Penguin Random House, a venture with Pearson PLC. Following completion of the transaction, which is subject to regulatory approval, Bertelsmann will own 75 per cent. of the venture. 

The firm worked as part of an integrated team with Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP and Bertelsmann’s in-house legal team.
