Travers Smith advises on Sir Martin Sorrell's new investment vehicle

Travers Smith LLP has advised new client Sir Martin Sorrell and his new investment vehicle S4 Capital Limited on S4 Capital's establishment, accelerated private placement and share-for-share reverse acquisition by Derriston Capital plc. Following completion of the acquisition, Derriston will change its name to S4 Capital plc and Sir Martin will become its Executive Chairman.

Macfarlanes advises WEPA on acquisition of 100 per cent control of Northwood & WEPA joint venture

Macfarlanes has advised German hygiene paper company WEPA on its acquisition of the 50 per cent stake in its Northwood & WEPA joint venture, a paper supplier based in the UK, currently held by its UK joint venture partner.

The WEPA Group is one of the three largest suppliers in the European tissue market, with 3,800 employees and a turnover of approximately €1.2bn following the transaction.

Tencent Acquires Majority Stake in Grinding Gear Games

Paul, Weiss represented Chinese internet giant Tencent in the acquisition of a 80 percent stake in Grinding Gear Games, the New Zealand-based gaming company that developed the popular online role-playing game Path of Exile. The transaction came about after Tencent published the game in China in 2017. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Path of Exile has more than 2 million monthly active players and more than 20 million sign-ups.

Stephenson Harwood advises Bowmark on buy-out of Lawyers on Demand

Law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP has advised Bowmark Capital (Bowmark), a mid-market private equity firm, on the buy-out of Lawyers on Demand (LOD) from, among others,  Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner.

LOD, the fast-growing alternative legal services provider, was launched in 2007. Following its 2016 merger with AdventBalance in Asia and Australia, LOD has ten offices, more than 650 lawyers and consultants, and over 500 corporate and law firm clients.

Mitek Systems Acquires A2iA

San Diego, CA and Paris, France – Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that the firm advised Mitek Systems, Inc., a global leader in digital identity verification solutions on the company’s acquisition of A2iA, SAS, a leader in artificial intelligence image recognition, processing and analysis. The approximately $50 million cash-and-stock transaction doubles the size of the Mitek Labs team, resulting in the industry’s largest private research group of PhD scientists in computer vision, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
