Ashurst advises St William Homes on securing planning permission for Haringey Heartlands

24 Apr 2018

Ashurst has negotiated a section 106 agreement on behalf of St William Homes, the joint venture between Berkeley Group and National Grid, to secure the grant of planning permission for the redevelopment of the former Clarendon Gas Works in the London Borough of Haringey. The scheme includes 1,714 homes and retail and office space and is central to the regeneration of Wood Green.

Planning permission for 1,056 homes was originally granted in 2012, but the new planning permission provides for a greater number and a wider mix of homes, including more than twice as many affordable homes and a contribution towards CIL.

The new section 106 agreement provides for 32.5 per cent affordable housing with a viability review mechanism and the delivery of a site-wide energy network, and safeguards the future provision by Haringey Council of a district energy centre on the site to serve Wood Green.

Ashurst has been providing comprehensive planning and property advice to St William since negotiations to acquire the site began in 2015.

The Ashurst team was led by Trevor Goode with assistance from Charlie Reid and Brian Cheung.
