Ashurst advises UniCredit on financing the acquisition of DuMont Carré in Cologne

11 Jul 2017

Ashurst advised UniCredit Bank AG as lender, mandated lead arranger, bookrunner, facility agent and security agent on the financing of the acquisition of DuMont Carré shopping centre in Cologne by European Property Investors Special Opportunities 4, a fund managed by Tristan Capital Partners.

DuMont Carré, located in Cologne's inner-city on Breite Straße, was sold by a closed-end real estate fund based in Germany. Unicredit has taken over the entire underwriting for the financing.

DuMont Carré consists of the actual shopping center with approximately 20,000 square metres of sales space, an underground garage with around 670 parking spaces, about 9,000 square metres of office space and 129 apartments on the upper floor. Tenants include Zalando, Woolworth, Fitness First and German public-broadcaster WDR as well as more than 20 retailers.

The Ashurst team was led by partner Derk Opitz (finance). He was assisted by partners Nicolas Deuerling (real estate) and Dr Martin Bünning (tax), associates Annabelle Sachs, Dr Jan Ulrich Heinemann (both finance) and Felix Bergfort (real estate) as well as by transaction lawyer Julia Probst and transaction manager Anna Jevsejeva (all Frankfurt).

Ashurst regularly advises UniCredit on real estate financings, most recently in March 2017 in relation to the financing of the acquisition of a portfolio of German and Austrian commercial properties by HanseMerkur Grundvermögen.
