The transaction was structured through the Mexican and Spanish subsidiaries of the Pernod Ricard Group
The Pernod Ricard Group, a leading French multinational in the production of wines and spirits, has agreed to sell the Domecq brand and all of the wine, spirits, and brandy businesses associated with it worldwide. The buyer is Bodegas Las Copas, a joint venture owned equally by Spanish company González Byass and Filipino group Emperador.
The sale was conducted by the Mexican and Spanish subsidiaries of Pernod Ricard. The transaction includes a portfolio of popular brands of Mexican brandies, such as Don Pedro, Presidente and Azteca de Oro, the winery in Ensenada (Baja California), and the inventory related to the Domecq brand in other international markets, such as the Benelux region, Brazil, Colombia and the United States.
The transaction is awaiting approval from competition authorities.
Cuatrecasas’s advice to the Pernod Ricard Group on this transaction was provided by the firm’s offices in Spain and Mexico, and involved a multidisciplinary team coordinated by Pere Kirchner, including partners Santiago Ferrer and Mariano Ucar in Mexico, and Alejandro Negro and Andrew Ward in Madrid.
The Filipino group Emperador is the world’s largest brandy producer, while Gonzalez Byass owns brands such as Tio Pepe and Lepanto.
