Dentons advised Expobank CZ on the bank’s entry into the Serbian market through the acquisition of Marfin Bank JSC Belgrade from Cypriot Cyprus Popular Bank. The transaction, that was originally signed on 30 September 2016, closed as scheduled at the end of February 2017.

Dentons’ team was led by partner Alexei Zakharko and of counsel Vladislav Bromberg, both based in Moscow.

The acquisition is in line with Expobank’s international development strategy and is intended to support cooperation between Expobank’s businesses in the Czech Republic, Russia and Serbia.

This deal adds to Dentons’ extensive track record in assisting Expobank on their M&A transactions, including the acquisition of Royal Bank of Scotland CJSC, LBBW CZ, VR Leasing, West LB, Barclays Bank, Santander Consumer Bank and City Mortgage Bank.
