Johannesburg—Dentons has advised Lucara Diamond Corp. (Lucara) on its recent appointment of mining contracting company Aveng Moolmans as the new mining contractor at Karowe diamond mine in Botswana.
Under the new appointment, Aveng Moolmans will provide mining services that include all drill, blast, load and haul functions for both ore and waste at the Karowe mine. Moolmans has been appointed to Karowe diamond mine for a period of six years, with mining activities set to begin in March.
Dentons' Nikita Lalla commented, "Towards the end of 2016 the mining industry was anticipating an increase in investments to coincide with the growth forecasted in the global economy for 2017 and 2018. It's great to see long-term contracts such as this one being implemented early on in 2017. With mining activities set to begin at Karowe next month, this appointment helps set Lucara on track to achieve its 2017 production and operating guidance."
