London—Dentons, together with Anya & Associates in Indonesia, has advised PT Pertamina (Persero), the Fortune Global 500 state-owned oil and gas company of the Republic of Indonesia, on a joint venture agreement with the Russia’s largest oil company, Rosneft, to jointly develop a new refining and petrochemical complex in Tuban, East Java. The Tuban refinery is set to be the first oil refinery built in Indonesia in 22 years and is expected to have a crude processing capacity in excess of 300,000 bpd while being targeted for completion in the early 2020s.
Alistair Black, Energy, Transport and Infrastructure partner at Dentons London, commented, "This agreement marks a significant milestone in the relationship between Pertamina and Rosneft, and will enhance Pertamina's position as a major global energy player. This is not only a much needed import substitution project for the country, but also an opportunity to supply the wider Asia-Pacific region as its energy demands are anticipated to rise. We are pleased and honoured to have been involved in securing the joint venture partnership for Pertamina."
The Dentons team advising Pertamina was led by Alistair Black, integrating counsel from the London, Singapore and Washington D.C. offices. Susan Paat from Anya & Associates acted for Pertamina on all aspects of Indonesian law.
