Dentons advises Taylor Wimpey on acquisition of residential led development in central London

13 Jun 2016

London—Dentons has acted as sole legal advisors to Taylor Wimpey Central London, the specialist central London division of FTSE-100 house builder Taylor Wimpey Plc., on its acquisition of a half-acre site in central London from Linkcity (formerly known as Bouygues Development). The Ebury Centre site is based on Sutherland Street in the sought after area of Pimlico, SW1.

The site comes with existing planning permission for a mixed-use development that will comprise 47 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and a new University Technology College (UTC). The University's facilities at the site, which have been individually sponsored by the University of Westminster and Network Rail, will train engineers, technicians and business leaders for careers in transport engineering and construction.

Taylor Wimpey Central London has been granted a long lease of the property from Westminster City Council, which it has, in turn, leased back in part to the Council. Bouygues, as contractor, will complete the development, which is scheduled to begin the vertical build in June 2016.  Taylor Wimpey Central London plans to hold its sales launch in London this autumn. The UTC is due to complete in September 2017 with the residential units being handed over in Q2 2018.

Commenting on the deal, real estate partner Richard Budge said, "We are delighted to have advised Taylor Wimpey Central London on this deal. New residential build opportunities in central London are few and far between, and with this acquisition Taylor Wimpey Central London has been able to further expand its prime residential business."

The Dentons team was led by real estate partner Richard Budge with support from senior associate Sameena Hanif and associate Darren Debock. Managing associate Shaun Tame and associate Tasmyn Brittlebank advised on construction aspects, senior associate Jamie McKie advised on planning matters, and senior associate Suhail Qureshi advised on tax issues.

Dentons' Real Estate team is highly experienced in advising lenders, investors, developers, landlords and tenants, buyers and sellers across all aspects of the real estate sector. The Firm's lawyers advise on everything from real estate finance, investment, retail, hotels and leisure, development and regeneration to property litigation and restructuring and insolvency.
