DLA Piper has represented the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the governing body for badminton, on its appointment of IMG Media for the global exploitation of all media rights for all BWF major events, the BWF World Superseries and BWF Grand Prix Gold.
The deal, which comes into effect at the start of the 2014 Superseries cycle, will see BWF's media-rights earnings increase four-fold as badminton's world-governing body capitalises on the sport's increasing global popularity and profile.
The team from DLA Piper was led Nick Fitzpatrick (Partner) and Patrick Mitchell (Senior Associate) and also included Sophie Spurr (Associate).
Nick commented: "It has been great to work on such a major deal for the BWF, and we are pleased to have worked with them on this important strategic step. We look forward to seeing them reap the benefits of this deal and further develop their brand internationally."
Dr. Kang Young Joong, BWF President, said: "This exciting partnership with IMG will allow BWF to explore interesting, new opportunities regarding how we can improve and expand the BWF brand and visibility through various media streams and products."
