DLA Piper advises WeWork on new development site at Aldwych House

20 Sep 2016

DLA Piper has advised WeWork on the letting of office space measuring 62,000 sq ft at Aldwych House. The 20 year lease for the property has been agreed with its owners, GI Partners and Rowan Strategic Asset Management. The new facility will open as of summer of 2017, with WeWork planning on a further 10 developments in London by 2017.

WeWork  provides shared workspace, community, and services for entrepreneurs, freelancers, start-ups and small businesses. The company designs and builds physical and virtual communities in which entrepreneurs share space and office services and have the opportunity to work together. The company has over 30,000 members who have access to health insurance, an internal social network, social events and workshops, and an annual summer retreat.

Paul Jayson, one of the Real Estate partners who led on the deal, said: "We are very excited to be involved with the continued expansion of WeWork in London. Co-working is part of a wider trend of disruptive real estate, shaking up the way in which office space is used. From start-ups to more established businesses, companies are seeing the benefits to their people and productivity of engendering a dynamic community feel that WeWork delivers".

The DLA Piper team was led by Real Estate partner, Paul Jayson, and comprised senior associate Rosemary McSwiney, associate Gemma Skeath, legal director Peter Lowe (all Real Estate), and senior associate Jess Dalton (Tax).
