DWF advises Old Chang Kee on UK joint venture

10 Feb 2017

DWF has advised Singapore food and beverage chain Old Chang Kee on their first UK-based joint venture with Singapore company 13 Wonders to form Old Chang Kee UK Limited.

The DWF team was led by corporate director Manmohan Singh with support from corporate solicitor Joseph Hui. They advised the client on the English law aspects of the deal and the structure of the joint venture company. The new venture will involve food retail outlets and manufacture, distribution and trading of food products within the UK.

Manmohan Singh, Director in the Corporate group at DWF, said: "Old Chang Kee have a clear vision to take what was a traditional Singaporean company, specialising in signature curry puffs and other Asian snacks, and become an international food retailer. We were pleased to support them with this important step in their growth strategy."

Song Yeow Chung, Group Financial Controller of Old Chang Kee, said: "We are grateful to the team at DWF for providing us with a great service that has allowed us to accomplish our goal of expanding our business in to the UK, through this joint venture."

The DWF circa 200-strong corporate team which now has nine locations in the UK as well as five international locations following a recent merger with French firm Heenan Paris, recorded a £6bn year in 2016 resulting from a number of high-value deals.
