DWF is advising Liverpool City Council (LCC) on a £15million deal, which will see Liverpool based hotel and serviced apartment chain, Signature Living, redevelop the city's Millennium House.
The plans - submitted by Signature Living - will see the council-owned Millennium House converted into a Bill Shankly-themed aparthotel with museum. The existing Lifestyles Gym will be relocated within the premises and expanded and 17,500sq ft of space will be made available to house new start-ups in the City. Signature Living will use the premises as its head office.
The re-development plans are currently being considered by the council. If approved, construction will begin in early 2015 with completion expected by 2016. It is expected that 60 jobs will be created during the redevelopment phase and then 100 positions once the building is re-opened and fully occupied.
LCC is being advised by Luke Hopkins, real estate specialist in DWF's Liverpool office. Luke said: "The sale of Millennium House is the next phase in LCC's strategic plans for its portfolio, and follows its recent purchase of the Grade II-listed Cunard Building. The reorganisation of its properties will enable it to relocate a thousand council staff who are currently based in properties across the city, making an estimated annual saving of £1.35m every year."
Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, said: "This really is a unique project, and something people would not be able to experience anywhere else in the world. A hotel celebrating the life, times and achievements of Bill Shankly would complement the raft of cultural attractions on the nearby William Brown Street, and further boost our tourism offer in this part of the city.
"The scheme would also enable us to deliver a bigger, better, Lifestyles gym, as well as delivering new office space, creating jobs and securing major investment in a key city centre building. It's a great deal for the city."
The re-development project is being undertaken in collaboration with Bill Shankly's grandson, Chris Carline.
