Global law firm Eversheds has advised the University of Wales, Newport on its merger with the University of Glamorgan to create the University of South Wales.
The merger, which will be effective from April 11th 2013 will create one of the biggest universities in Wales, incorporating five campuses and more than 30,000 students.
The merger called on a wide variety of experts from Eversheds’ sector-leading education group. The team was led by partner Glynne Stanfield, assisted by Legal Director Helen Mortlock. Glynne comments:
“Eversheds is proud to have advised on the creation of the University of South Wales. We have been involved in much of the reorganisation of further and higher education in Wales over the last few years and this project builds on that work. We are sure that the new University will draw on the great work of its two legacy institutions and go from strength to strength.”
Andrew Wilkinson, Chair of the Corporation of the University of Wales, Newport and chair-elect of the University of South Wales commented:
“We were delighted with the work of Eversheds. It was a complex project working to incredibly tight timescales. We chose Eversheds because they had the right resources drawing on both its Cardiff based and national education teams. They really helped guide us through all the issues and provided very pragmatic and focussed advice.”
