Eversheds advises Dwr Cymru Welsh Water on £1.5 billion capital investment programme

18 Jul 2014

Eversheds has advised Dwr Cymru Welsh Water on its procurement of alliance agreements with partners appointed to deliver its £1.5 billion capital investment programme for 2015 to 2020.

The partners will work closely with Welsh Water throughout the investment period, known as Asset Management Plan 6 (AMP6), to deliver cost effective and sustainable outcomes that will benefit customers and the environment. As part of its AMP6 regulatory funding cycle Welsh Water will invest in improvements to its clean water and sewerage networks and treatment works.

A key driver for Welsh Water in its selection of partners for AMP6 was to identify companies who could work collaboratively in the new capital delivery alliance. The alliance will drive value in the planning and pre-construction phase by co-locating Welsh Water, contractor and consultant resource into a single Integrated Solutions Team to help facilitate collaboration and innovation.

The alliance agreements will run for an initial five year period from 2015 - 2020 with an option to extend for a further five years. The successful partners are Skanska Construction UK Limited working with Hyder Consulting (UK) Limited, Mott Macdonald Bentley Limited and Morgan Sindall working with Arup.

The Eversheds team was led by construction Partner Chris Pickens, working alongside Bridgette Wilcox, Head of the firm’s commercial team, Partner Nigel Proctor, Partner Tom Bray and Associate Helen Achilleos.

Chris Pickens commented:

“Dwr Cymru Welsh Water is committed to looking at different ways it can innovate its services to make it work better for customers. These agreements will cover the majority of clean and waste water infrastructure investment in Wales for the next decade and we are delighted to have helped Welsh Water achieve this.”

Chris Jones, Welsh Water’s Chief Executive, said:

“As a company, we want to deliver the best possible outcomes for our customers and for the environment at the most affordable price. We went through an extensive procurement process to ensure that we selected capital partners that share our vision and values and are committed to delivering the customer service, environmental and financial outcomes that our customers want and deserve.”
