29 Aug 2017

Eversheds Sutherland has advised the Medical Research Council (MRC) on the transfers of the MRC Prion Unit to University College London and the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit to the University of Cambridge.

The transfers are part of the MRC’s University Unit programme which creates a strategic partnership between the MRC and Universities carrying on MRC funded research. The partnerships are founded on creating new opportunities for enhancing science and better value for money.

Principal Associate Morag Roddick (corporate education) led the Eversheds Sutherland team, with support from: Partner Neil Mohring (commercial), Principal Associates Duncan Lendrum (employment) and Dave Hughes (commercial), Senior Associate Rachael Sleigh (real estate), and Associates Claire Laviers (litigation) and Tom Pollitt (corporate).

Eversheds Sutherland has advised the MRC on fourteen University Unit transfers and the establishment of three new MRC University Units over the duration of the programme. The final three transfers are expected to complete before the MRC transfers its functions to UK Research and Innovation in 2018.

Morag Roddick, commented:

“We are delighted to have provided support to the MRC throughout its University Unit programme, which sees world class scientific research being continued and supported in our UK higher education institutions.”
