Firm Advises Bavaria on Acquisition of Palm Belgian Craft Brewers

11 May 2016

International law firm Simmons & Simmons advised Dutch brewer Bavaria N.V. (‘Bavaria’) on the acquisition of a controlling stake in Palm Belgian Craft Brewers.

The 60% stake Bavaria has acquired will gradually be increased to 100%, full acquisition to be completed in 2021.

Partners Rob Hendriks and Pieter van Uchelen, who led on the deal, commented: "This transaction marks a major step in the execution of Bavaria's clear-cut growth strategy through expansion into the international beer market, more specifically the special beers market. Given the fact that this transaction, being a phased takeover of an essentially Belgian company, required specialist expertise, we benefited from the know-how offered by our Brussels office, proving once again the added value and strength of our firm's international network. Our ample experience in the Foods & Drinks sector has proved advantageous as well. With this transaction, we continue to build on our long-standing relationship with Bavaria."

The financial aspects of the deal were arranged by partner Marieke Driessen and Camilla Molino, who helped Bavaria secure the funding from the Dutch banks.

Other members of the team included Sandra Voet-van de Wijdeven, Valerie Sijberden (both based in the firm’s office in The Netherlands), France Wilmet and Michael Bulckaert (both based in the firm’s Brussels office).
