Firm Advises on £200 Million Chinese Investment in Cambridge Science Park in UK

12 Feb 2018

A Squire Patton Boggs team, led by London Corporate partner Michelle Chen, has advised client Tus-Holdings Co., Ltd. on a landmark £200 million joint venture with Trinity College, Cambridge. The deal will see a new phase of investment and renewal in Cambridge Science Park, including 350,000 sq ft of office/research space over five new buildings, including a state-of-the-art Biohub, which will be home to laboratories and offices for early stage biotech and medtech companies.

Cambridge Science Park, the oldest in the UK, was founded in 1970 by Trinity College and is home to a large number of life science and technology companies and startups.

Beijing-based Tus-Holdings, established in 2000, is the former Tsinghua University Science Park (TusPark) Development Center, founded in August 1994, and one of the largest science park operators in the world. Tus-Holdings has full responsibility for developing, constructing, operating and managing TusPark, currently the largest single university science park in the world, with a building area of 770,000 square meters and more than 1,500 enterprises within the park.

The multidisciplinary team acting for Tus-Holdings included lawyers from the Corporate, Real Estate, Tax Strategy & Benefits, Construction and Environmental, Safety & Health practices in the firm’s London, Birmingham and Leeds offices.

“We’re delighted to support our client Tus on this significant project,” commented Michelle Chen. “The investment will be transformative at Cambridge Science Park, fostering the kind of innovative research and development and commercial opportunities so vital to the UK and China economies.”
