Freshfields has advised Goldman Sachs Merchant Banking Division on the financing of the acquisition of Continental Bakeries
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (‘Freshfields’) has advised Goldman Sachs Merchant Banking Division (‘Goldman Sachs’) on the financing of the acquisition of the leading European bakery group, Continental Bakeries. Goldman Sachs, together with Silverfern Group, acquired Continental Bakeries from Dutch private equity firm, NPM Capital N.V.
Continental Bakeries, which is headquartered in the Netherlands, specialises in the production of biscuits, bread replacements and toast and has 1,550 employees across Western Europe. The company focuses on private label products and owns a number of its own brands such as Haust, Gille, Grabower, Bussink, Brinky and Continental Bakeries.
The multi-jurisdictional team was led by finance partner Mandeep Lotay (Amsterdam) with senior associate, Max Mayer (Amsterdam) and support from partners Thijs P. Flokstra (Amsterdam), Michael Josenhans (Frankfurt) and Geert Verhoeven (Brussels). Swedish law advice was provided by Mannheimer Swartling, which forms part of Freshfields’ global StrongerTogether network.
