Herbert Smith Freehills has won a string of awards at Project Finance International's annual PFI Awards ceremony, and has also been ranked for the first time in Dealogic's league table of global legal project finance advisors, marking an extremely successful year for our global team.
The firm won the following four categories at the PFI Awards, which took place at London's Hilton Hotel on 30 January 2013:
* Asia Pacific Deal of the Year for our advice to the banks on the Ichthys LNG Project– the largest project financing globally in 2012
* Asia Pacific PPP Deal of the Year for our advice to the Queensland Government on the Sunshine Coast University Hospital – the State's first hospital to be delivered under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model
* European Road Deal of the Year for our advice to the Government of St Petersberg on its Western High Speed Diameter Toll Road Project – the world's largest PPP project in the toll road construction sector
* European Oil & Gas Deal of the Year for our advice to a group of 25 lenders on a US$2.5 billion secured loan and letter of credit facility for Lundin Petroleum – the landmark transaction of the year in the upstream financing space
Earlier this month the firm was ranked fifth in Dealogic's 2012 league table for legal advisers on global project finance deals, and third for project finance deals in the Asia Pacific region. We also achieved a fifth place ranking in the league table for global PFI/PPP project finance deals.
Malcolm Hitching, Head of Finance UK/EMEA at Herbert Smith Freehills, comments:
"These accolades mark an extremely successful year for Herbert Smith Freehills' project finance practice. It is particularly pleasing to see our work for both sponsor and lender clients across a number of industries represented in the awards wins."
Brendan Quinn, Head of Finance Australia/Asia at the firm, adds:
"These are an outstanding set of achievements and we would like to congratulate all of those who played a role in this success. The fact that our involvement in deals within the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions is recognised by both the awards wins and league table rankings demonstrates that Herbert Smith Freehills is one of the few firms that is able to offer clients a genuinely global project finance capability."
