Hogan Lovells advised Société Générale on the acquisition of Lumo, a crowdfunding platform dedicated to renewable energy projects.
French Fintech Lumo combines strong capabilities in crowdfunding and renewable energy and has been accelerating the energy transition since 2012. The platform allows individuals and businesses to contribute to the financing of a range of renewable energy projects in France.
Since its creation, Lumo has raised funds from thousands of individual investors, to the profit of around forty wind, solar and hydroelectric projects which will produce more than 260 million kWh of green electricity every year. This is equivalent to the annual consumption of almost 100,000 homes.
With this acquisition, Société Générale, one of the leaders in renewable energy financing, strengthens its capacity to serve big energy clients by offering them an alternative solution, utilizing crowdfunding for the development of their projects, as required by the French government's "Renewable Energy Liberation Plan", one of the key components of the "Climate Plan".
The Hogan Lovells team in charge of the transaction was led by Jean-Marc Franceschi (partner) assisted by Arnaud Deparday (senior associate) and Sophie Han.
The sellers were advised by De Gaulle Fleurance et Associés.
