On 20 October 2016, advised by King & Wood Mallesons (“KWM”), Columbia Pacific China Healthcare Fund. L.P. (“Columbia China”) officially signed an agreement with Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited (“Temasek”) on establishing a joint venture and investing in China's healthcare service market. KWM acted as Columbia China’s PRC legal counsel in this transaction. With a total investment of US$250 million from Temasek, Columbia China will further expand its business in China. The transaction shows a strong interest of international investors in China’s healthcare service market, and marks such sector’s advance in internationalization.

Founded by Columbia Pacific Management Inc. (“Columbia Pacific”), Columbia China is a privately held US healthcare investment company headquartered in Shanghai. Temasek is a world-renowned investment company based in Singapore. Columbia China has been converted into a 50-50 joint venture between Columbia Pacific and Temasek.

KWM advised Columbia China on all aspects of the project, especially on researching into local market access policies and regulatory rules for domestic healthcare and pension institutions, providing advice regarding PRC legal issues and approvals, and closing the transaction. The project was led by partner Song Ruiqiu. KWM’s performance in this project was highly praised by the client.
