King & Wood Mallesons represents Drone Giant Shenzhen Dajiang in obtaining the IP right of its essential domain names

13 May 2016

May 2016, King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) represented Shenzhen Dajiang Innovation Technology Co., Ltd. (DJI-Innovations) and successfully obtained full support from Hong Kong International Arbitration Center (HKIAC) panel in the administrative dispute arbitration on three domain names used in the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong. Safeguarding DJI-Innovations’ crucial domain assets, KWM defended DJI-Innovations’ intellectual property (IP) rights through that case.

DJI-Innovations is a leading domestic and global developer and manufacturer in the control system for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and UAV solutions. With its clientele covering more than 100 countries, its products sold all over the world, DJI-Innovations enjoys a great reputation in the industry.

DJI-Innovations owns the registered trademark series “DJI” in the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong. The three domain names involved in the administrative dispute arbitration are dji.com.cn, dji.cn and dji.com.hk. After the complex settling process, with its rigorous preparation and rich experience in IP dispute resolution, KWM legal team successfully advised DJI-Innovations in winning the arbitration at HKIAC. It’s reported that the chief expert who ruled in the series domain name dispute is David Kreider, the chief expert in an earlier high-profile WeChat domain name arbitration.

The project was led by KWM partners Cecilia Lou and He Fang.
